The MVD is now able to generate a 120-day temp license for CDL Drivers who are not yet Real ID compliant but have expired due to the pandemic. Exceptions include licenses issued for 8 years, Hazmat Endorsements, and only for CDL drivers whose licenses expire between March 11-October 31st. If you are needing to get a temporary license, please call the training program for instructions. Furthermore, the end of September marks the last month for our Safety Trainings. SWMC Safety Incentive applications will be mailed out October 1st, 2020, training needs to be completed by October 31st, and the applications/cards are due November 16th, 2020.
For those of you who utilize Safety Incentive, there has been a 60-day extension to the Plan Year. This means we have two extra months to get training completed. Training will need to be completed by October 31st, 2020. Applications will be sent out on October 1st, 2020. Applications will be due by November 16th, 2020.
The International Training Site in Crosby, Texas will be closed until October 9th, with training resuming on October 12th, 2020. If Texas is still at Level 1 come October 9th, the closure will be extended.
If you are planning on coming to the training site, a mask and 6ft social distancing are required. If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID, have been in contact with someone who has tested positive, or traveled out of the State please do not come to the training site. Our office hopes all members are staying healthy and safe during this unprecedented time.

If you feel you will not benefit from the training program because of your experience and or training you have already received, you can become a Journeyman with IUOE Local 953. They will make the determination of your Journeyman Skill Level. Some applicants will be sent to us for Journeyman Testing.
To get on the out of work list you will need:
Pay a $30 Registration Fee & fill out forms
Bring in any Certifications
Drivers License/Social Security Card

Apprentices will be trained to take the places of past generations of Heavy Machine Operators, Heavy Duty Mechanics, and Stationary Mechanics. You will be equipped to compete in a highly competitive world, make a good living, and be a credit to yourself, your community, and your country.
Selection of Apprentices under this program shall be made from qualified applicants on the basis of qualifications alone and without regard to race, creed, color, national origin or sex. This Program shall be operated on a completely nondiscriminatory basis.
